The Chartered Institute's professional examination scheme, which has always been based on a multi-disciplinary syllabi, is drawn to keep pace with the latest developments in professional administration techniques, make members more versatile and more relevant to the changing complexities of business practices in the new millennium as well as to reinforce the Chartered Institute's expertise in the wide area of professional practice bestowed on the Institute by its Enabling Act. The scheme comprises:
1) Diploma In Business Studies (DBS)
2) AICEA Professional Examination.

OBJECTIVES
The programme, which is the Administrative Technician Examination of AICEA, is principally aimed at:

1.0 Producing diplomates with sound theoretical and practical knowledge to carry out effectively a number of activities in any organisation. The DBS Diplomate should be able to:
1.1 Conduct a simple structured survey on any aspect of business and make appropriate recommendations to the authority.
1.2 Identify management problems at appropriate levels, analyze them and design management strategies to overcome them.
1.3 Carry out inspection and auditing of books and records.

 DURATION
Duration is a minimum of two academic years where no exemptions are granted.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The minimum entry requirement for admission to Diploma in Business Studies Course is the GCE O’Level or its equivalent, with credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, and Economics obtained at not more than two sittings. Literature in English and Oral English will not be accepted in place of English Language.

EXEMPTIONS
Exemptions on subject-for-subject basis may be granted to persons with recognized qualifications of suitable standards which indicate sufficient coverage of Diploma in Business Studies syllabus.

COURSE STRUCTURE
The course structure comprises the following components: 1) Examination Subjects (Parts 1-4) ; 2) Project Writing; 3) Career Development Education and Training (CADET) Workshop; 4) Industrial Attachment.

METHOD OF STUDY
Candidates may study full time, part time (weekends), or distance learning at any of the approved study centres in preparation for the examination.

EXAMINATION REGULATIONS
The parts 1, 2 and 3 and 4 examinations must be completed strictly in that sequence. All the subjects of a part must be taken together at a sitting, except where exempted or where referrals are held. Credit gained successfully in any subject of any Part of the Examination can be retained, to prevent unnecessary re-taking of the examinations

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the AICEA Professional Examination are to:
a) provide for the Institute, together with the practical experience requirements, an adequate basis for assuring society that those admitted to membership are competent to act as Chartered Administrators for entities, whether in manufacturing, commercial or service
organizations, in the public or private sectors of the economy.
b) enable the Institute to examine whether prospective members have an adequate knowledge, understanding and mastery of the stated body of knowledge and skills.
c) complement the Institute's practical experience requirements.

STRUCTURE
The new structure comprises the following three main components.
1.) Examination Courses
This is made up of three main levels, namely: Foundation, Intermediate, and Final- Professional Practice
The Professional Practice (PP) has the following two modules:
(a) Professional Practice 1
Constituted into three streams corresponding to the Institute's usual Professional Administration special isms, from which candidates will select one stream to follow, namely:
(i) PP1 A: Corporate Administration
(ii) PP1 B: Financial Administration
(iii) PP1 C: Public Administration
(b) Professional Practice 2
2.) Research Project
3.) Mandatory Professional Administration Workshop

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
One of the following qualifications in any discipline: Degree, HND, Final Examination Certification of a Chartered Professional Body, any other qualifications approved by the Governing Council of the Institute.
EXEMPTIONS
Exemptions from the subjects of Foundation and Intermediate Levels may be awarded at the discretion of the Council to holders of qualifications which indicate sufficient coverage of the Institute's syllabus. There is no exemption from the subjects of Final Level.

 EXAMINATION REGULATIONS
The following regulations regarding the examination of the Institute are in force, and must be strictly adhered to by all registered students of the Institute.
 
1.) The Foundation Level, Intermediate Level and Final Level (PP1 and PP2) must be taken separately and strictly in that sequence. Each subject is examined by a three hour paper.
2.) Except where exempted, or where referrals are held, all subjects within a level or module must be taken together at one sitting.
3.) All the subjects of a level or module must be passed before attempting the subjects of the next level or module.
4.) Credits gained successfully in the Foundation and Intermediate Level papers can be retained, to prevent unnecessary re-taking of examinations in these two levels.
5.) All the subjects of each Final Professional Practice module must be passed in a maximum of two consecutive sittings; otherwise all the papers must be retaken.
6.) The pass mark of all papers is 50%.
